Elmers are essential

This past month a new ham to the area reached out to our club and asked for help. Greg Macdonald, KH7GM, was that ham. Greg was having trouble with his FT-897 and the 145.490 repeater in Trenton. Dave, WB5NHL, reached out to our very own Kent Hufford, KQ4KK who sprang into action! He traveled to Greg’ house in New Ellenton and found that the issue was a loose antenna connection and an too narrow squelch. All fixed in two days time!

Greg is a prospective Technician member and sent me an email that
he was having trouble with his FT-897 getting into the 490 repeater. I
contacted Kent and though not familiar with the 897 he traveled to
Greg's house in Ellenton within 2 days. Kent found a lose antenna
connector and adjusted squelch. In short order, Greg was able to contact
the 490 repeater as well as Beach Island (VHF & UHF).
